We swear to ourselves that increases in technological advancements will help the world get better, as it has seemed to have for the past few decades. Ultimately, I believe that increases in technology will lead to the end of the world.
But lets not jump the gun shall we?
I feel as though technology is making the whole world uniform. It would be absolutely absurd to receive letter in someones own handwriting. Even on top of that, it could messy, hard to read, but it most definitely not be unique to anyone in this day and age. However, it would completely normal if you had it word-processed like any other average letter with 1" margins and typed in the infamous Times New Roman, 12 point font that we are all so used to. Typing it, would simply be "professional" and I think the world has got itself trying way too hard to be "professional" all the time.
We live in a world where people try to avoid people. We send text messages so we don't have to call, just so we can avoid the "Hi, How are you?" part of the conversation. We ask how everyone is that lives right next door to us by using Facebook and Myspace messages instead calling them or paying them a visit. I feel society today makes us focus on our own lives, our own interests. We've become selfish.
Then we have the nifty green screen technology that has made movies boring. I'll admit, it is fun to see unrealistic action, explosions, and stunts that happen once in a while. But when it shows up in every movie, it gets old, yet the people keep coming, like robots, not looking for anything new, just the same old stuff.
Life has slowly lost and is continuing to loose its quality. People prefer to type rather than write letters because its more "professional", send text messages because its "more convenient" than having to call and talk to the person for an extra 2-3 minutes. Video-games trump a day that could've been spent outside. And the list goes on and on.
I think I've made my point pretty clear. Times have changed. Technology is no longer the good guy, it was a double agent and now it has turned sides. We need to limit it before it gets the best of us. We need to limit it before it molds completely into our personalities, before it can change who we say we are as people.
